SWS v Bolt Preview

So, the “big” game is tonight.

What Usain Bolt has described as his last chance to earn a professional football contract.

However Mariners have stated that they would wait until January to sign the legendary Olympic sprinter.

Looking at the line up, it appears that Mike Mulvey is doing everything possible to accommodate the 2m Jamaican.

The front third is stacked with notable internationals Tommy Oar and Ross McCormack along with NPL sensation Jordan Murray accompanying Bolt up front.

The fullbacks Clisby and Millar have also been strategically selected to provide crosses into the box, hopefully to land on the head of the trialist and net him a goal or two.

There of course have been concerns regarding his fitness, especially after the departure of performance coach Andrew Young. However the club is confident he has improved since his trial match against the Central Coast Rep side.

But remember, he is an ordinary trialist according to Mulvey.

Bolt becoming a professional footballer isn’t the only last chance effort on tonight as A-League hopefuls South West Sydney will be looking to make a positive showing ahead of the selection of A-League expansion sides. If expansion is still going ahead next season that is.

Macarthur South West United has assembled a side made up of players from “local” NPL clubs such as Patrick Antelmi and Glen Trifiro from SU58, Mark Symington from Macarthur Rams, Josh and Sean Symons from APIA along with 5 players from Sydney Olympic and a few others. The full line up can be found here.

It’s hard to imagine that if expansion does go ahead that anything done now will have minimal impact on the selection of the teams.

However it should still be a good night of football for the people in the South West Sydney/Macarthur area as they get a chance to show how much support an A-League team in that area may possibly have.

Tonight’s game will be shown live on Fox Sports 503 from 7.30PM. You can follow fox sports for live updates right here.
