St George Saints FC v Sydney United 58 FC – Illinden Sports Centre

Game Day #2 of the FFA Cup Round of 32 sees St George Saints FC make their debut in the national cup against regulars Sydney United 58 FC at Illinden Sports Centre. This tie marks the return of the Saints to the national stage for some time as they have been resonating in the NPL hallows of NSW football for quite some time now and last being in the national stage in 90/91 in the NSL.

The interesting notion behind this tie is that it is an exact copy of the NSW Waratah Cup a few weeks ago, where United defeated the Saints 3-2 at the Sydney United Sports Centre. On the balance of recent form, it’s expected that United will again do the business against their NPL2 hosts. The Saints’ form this season in the NPL2 places them 11th on the ladder while their much fancied visitors will be looking to progress to the Round of 16 for the fourth time in five appearances. United will be looking at forwards Peter Simonovski and Patrick Antelmi to provide some fire power while relying on the ever reliable Thomas Manos in goals to keep steed in order to see the Edensor Park side progress. St George as the sole representative of the NPL2 will look to favourite son Romero to bag a goal or two, having scored 10 goals in 6 games since his return to the Saints.

As gallant as the Saints will be, United should win this tie comfortably.

Prediction: St George Saints 0 – 3 Sydney United 58 FC
