Bankstown City FC

Bankstown City FC are a football club based in Sefton, a suburb in the city of Bankstown. Colloquially known as the “Lions,” Bankstown City were established in 1975 by football enthusiasts at a local park in the Yagoona area. With its support from the local Macedonian community,  the club grew from strength to strength in the period of the 80s and 90s, (playing as Sydney Macedonia,) playing in and taking out the league titles of the various NSW State League competitions the club participated in. The highlight of this culminated in winning the then NSW 1st Division championship in 1994 (having only lost one game in the entire season,) as well as winning the gran final, as well as taking out the Warratah Cup, beating Sydney Olympic (who were playing the NSL) 2 – 1 in front a sell out crowd.

Currently playing out of Jensen Oval in Sefton, the Bankstown club seen its share of successes and disappointments, having last been in the top flight of NSW football in 2010, having been in the second flight of state football since 2011. The club is ambitious in its goals in returning to the summit of state football, investing well in players, youth and staff that have seen some promising results, but often falling just short of promotion. Famous players to have worn the club colours include Sasho Petrovski, Michael Beauchamp, Chad Gibson, Brad Boardman and Ivo Bosnar. Despite the club currently plying its trade in NPL NSW 2, Bankstown City have enough ambition to achieve their goal of returning among the elite of NSW football.
