FFA Cup Round of 16 Ties Announced

The FFA Cup Round of 16 fixtures have been announced and the next stage of the national cup competition poses some great opposition for the NPL NSW teams.

In arguably the clash of the round, Edensor Park outfit Sydney United 58 FC host A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers at Campbelltown Stadium. A draw that waters the mouth of any football fan, these two somewhat rivals will face off in what is sure to be a classic match in terms of action on and off the pitch. Sydney United 58 FC put out a statement earlier this week stating the reasons why Campbeltown Stadium was chosen to host and not their spiritual home at Sydney United Sports Centre which has (understandly) angered many fans, stating that their pitch does not meet A-League standards but in a bizarre reality are able to face NPL opposition on it. This derby will certainly be one to watch.

Marconi Stallions will also face A-League opposition in the form of Melbourne City FC at Marconi Stadium. The Stallions progress through into the Round of 16 for the first time in their FFA Cup runs and will have it all to do against a City outfit who desperately need some sort of silverware. Buoyed after their Round of 32 win in Hobart, Marconi will be looking to give their fans something to cheer about as they look to forge some history once again.

Manly United FC finally have an interstate tie against in an all NPL clash against former NSL side Brisbane Strikers at Perry Park. The Strikers took down Wellington Phoenix in a penalty shootout and will see this as perfect chance to make the next stage against a Manly United side who haven’t had the best of NPL seasons.
