23rd/24th September Results

National Premier League Finals

We now have our grand finalists for the 2017 NPL finals. The winner will not only be crowned the best NPL side in Australia, but will also gain automatic entry into the 2018 FFA Cup round of 32.

On Saturday, APIA pulled ahead in the 28th minute through Biczo before a strong second half by Heidelberg United saw them score 2 goals to steal the win.

In the weekends other game, which was delayed until the Sunday due to flight problems, Brisbane Strikers defeated Edgeworth Eagles 2-0. Stewart opened the scoring in the 28th minute before Lee sealed the 2-0 win in the 95th.

Brisbane Strikers will now host Heidelberg United United in the grand final this Saturday 30th September, 6pm at Perry Park.

Controversy, controversy, controversy.

Rydalmere scored earl in the 2nd half to take a 1 nil advantage over their rivals throughout the year. However a win in regular time was not on the cards as Fraser park leveled the scores in the 83rd minute through Paradanta, so it was off to extra time.

Gaitatzis netted a penalty in the 105th minute, after a handball was called inside the box, hitting the arm of a Rydalmere player. The spot kick made the game 2-1 to Fraser Park, giving them the win. *

However the real controversy was that a Fraser Park player was shown a second yellow card and not sent off, whilst Rydalmere we’re up 1-0. This may come as surprise to a lot of people, as the referee; Adam Susz was demoted from NPL 1 games last season for missing a bad elbow on Robbie Younis last season.

So that’s it for the NSW NPL this season. A full review of all the winners across the grades will be up shortly.
