2019 – Football/Page/Other Update

So the 2019 season is right around the corner and there are a few things we would like to cover off before it gets under way, as well as a few major developments that have occurred over the last week or so.

So first off let’s talk football.

The first major talking point this season is that goal scorers from U13s to U16s will not be recorded this season. Please be aware that this does not mean scores won’t be counted, just that Johnny A won’t go down on SportsTG as scoring x goals per game and Johnny B y goals per game

Results at this age group will still be counted.

The reasoning behind this is the lack of staff and the volume of parents calling head office to correct referees mistakes, and there have been cases of video footage being used to overturn the decision of who gets awarded the goal.

So please stop doing that.

Secondly, there is confirmation that the bottom 3 teams from NPL 2 and the bottom 5 teams from NPL 3 will be relegated this seasons to prepare for the 4 tiers of 12 teams next year. Club Championship points will be the same as normal; 4x 1st grade, 2x 20s and 1x 18s.

With Wagga leaving the FNSW system this still leaves 51 clubs, meaning that clubs will be on notice as 3 will have to go or merge.

Thirdly, and we think this is a pretty big one, is that due to the new Playfootball season being rushed in with basic functions, no player ID cards will be distributed to clubs this season.

The biggest issue we have (like many others) with this, is that it can open up a can of worms of over age players playing down for important games. We’re not saying it will happen, just that it could.

This issue should be fixed for the 2020 season.

The FFA Cup draw is today which we are very excited about and will be covering live, so stay tuned for updates on that.

Streaming for more, possibly all NPL 1 games looks set to be announced as well based on recent tweets, and the move from Victoria and Queensland to feature all their top flight games live.

Moving on to our last point on football before we move to page/site stuff; is that there are reports of NPL 1 clubs wanting the PPS of all clubs to be made public, as there are concerns that some clubs aren’t within the points cap.

We are strong advocates of the points totals being made public anyway, as we believe transparency is key to good governance.

Moving on to our stuff now, if you’d made it down this far, thanks.

Firstly we are pleased to announce that our podcast will be returning this season, it can be found here and through all good podcast apps.
We are unsure of what the format is going to look like, but we are open to suggestions and looking at possible player/coach/figure interviews.

Next, we would love to get food reviews going from our fans. So if you’re at the ground and get a great (or not so great) feed, please send us a brief review and a pic! Especially if it’s a great chevapi/kebapi, we’re on the lookout for the best this year.

We’re hoping to get around to more games this season with more coverage, and there are some special plans in the works that may or may not come to fruition, so stay tuned to the page and socials.

Lastly, we’re on the lookout for sponsors. As you may (or may not be) aware, this is started as a hobby and has grown beyond our wildest dreams. However sites do not run on dreams. Sponsorship would go towards site costs, polo shirts, and ways that would help us improve football in this state.

We are on the lookout for a sponsor for the podcast which average 70 plays per episode in our first season, with highs of around 120. If you are interested please contact the page through Facebook, Twitter, or email us at thecleansheetwebsite@gmail.com.

Please also check out our partners: Treiner, Ultras Clothing, and TPO Rankings. They all do fantastic work for the game.
