Stanmore Hawks FC
Stanmore Hawks were founded in 1978 by the Greek-Cypriot community in Sydney and originally competed as Cyprus United. After playing in the lower leagues of NSW football for the early 1980s, they entered the NSW Inter Urban Division 5 in 1985. After their first season they gained promotion, followed with 7 more consecutive promotions. This put them into the NSW Premier League in 1993. In 1995 however they were relegated back down after only 5 wins in that season.
Stanmore remained in the second division over the next decade and were relegated in 2007 to the third division, until the end of the 2013 season when Football NSW created the new format that effectively saw them relegated to State League 2. In 2013 the Hawks dominated the league with 16 wins including a 16-0 thrashing of Schofield Scorpions, and winning the grand final 1-0 over Fairfield City.
