Rydalmere Lions FC
Rydalmere Lions FC is a football club based in the Western Sydney suburb of Rydalmere. It existence in its current form came about after a merger between Rydalmere FC and Fairfield Lions FC, but have been in operation for much longer. The club initially started as St. Joseph’s Zgharta Soccer Club in 1979, a homage to the club’s Lebanese roots for the large northern Lebanese town of Zgharta.
There has always been a strong focus on the development at junior football at the club and this has been evident in the club’s various successes at youth levels. A name change in 2010 saw the club re-brand itself from “St Joseph’s” to “Rydalmere FC” with its eye on entering the then State Leagues and in 2013, this reality was eventuated as the club entered the State League. Since its merger with Fairfield Lions FC, the Lions have moved from strength to strength, seeing promotion from the State League to NPL NSW3, where they currently ply their trade.
Playing out of Rydalmere Park, the club has serious ambitions to climb the NPL tiers with former Adelaide United FC and Ghana national team striker Lloyd Owusu on its books, as well as Zac Elrich and Matthew Mayora who are in their own right come from a formidable pedigree.
