March 9th/10th Results + Match of the Round

We’ve decided after a lengthy off season (and forgetting to do anything last week) that we should get back into covering the match results as well as a match of the round for each tier. Some weeks this might be two or three games per tier, depending on how many we get to, otherwise we’ll pick one and talk about it.

NPL 1
Wolves 2 – 1 Manly
Blacktown City 1-0 Mt Druitt Town
Olympic 0-1 Sharks
Hakoah 1-2 Sydney
SU58 0-0 Rockdale
APIA 1-0 Marconi

Our Match of the Round for this week was a tough pick. Low scoring games all around but it has to go to Sharks upsetting last years premiers and champions 1-0.
A great sequence in the 67th minute saw Juan Romero put through a perfect through ball to Jeremy Cox who slotted it past Henderson. The goal was enough to get the win in a game that saw 3 Sydney Olympic players receive cautions (Sanchez, Angel and Madonis.)
Definitely a match to check out: https://www.facebook.com/nplnsw/videos/2454080818212143/

NPL 2
Hills 4-2 Bonnyrigg
Rams 1-0 Spartans
Northern Tigers 2-1 St George FC
Mounties 2-6 NSM
Canterbury Bankstown 1-5 Spirit
Rydalmere 3-1 St George City
CCM 2-1 WSW

Another week of NPL 2 and plenty more goals scored. 28 were put away last week and another 30 this week. If you’re looking for action as a neutral, definitely the league to watch.

Our pick of the round goes to Spirit who demolished Canterbury Bankstown 5-1 adding onto their 3-1 win against St George City last week.
Duncan Stewart bagged himself a hattrick with Travis Cooper and Louis Bozanic adding their names to the scoresheet as well.
We wonder if the extra motivation of us picking them as relegation candidates is helping?

NPL 3
Parramatta 2-0 Dunbar
Stanmore 1-1 Inter Lions
SD Raiders 5-1 WNSW
Rage 3-2 Hawkesbury
Bankstown City 3-2 Dulwich Hill
Camden 4-0 Bankstown United
GRM 3-2 Sydney Uni

It was tough to pick our match of the round for NPL 3 especially with Raiders picking up a 5-1 win and Camden 4-0 over Bankstown, but this week it goes to Gladesville Ryde Magic v Sydney Uni.
Uni took the lead first getting out to a 2-0 advantage within the first 30 minutes.
Magic started to hit their stride around the 40 minute mark with Occhipinti scoring on debut to take the game 2-1 into the break.
Within 10 minutes Tomaras scored the equaliser before star player Chris Gaitatzis scored the winner within the final 10 to secure the 3-2 win and 3 points in what will be a tight comp.

State League
(Coming next week, but we’re highly confident in UNSW defeating the bye).
