FFA Cup Update – Other States

The member federation teams for Victoria have been decided with their round 7 games being played this week. This means we know their 4 clubs entering the round of 32. Let’s take a look at how each state is currently going with their preliminary rounds.

Football Federation Victoria

The 4 clubs that have qualified for Victoria are:

Hume City who defeated Morelane City 4-0. Hume City are making their 3rd appeareance, making the quarter finals and round of 16 previously, both times losing out to Melbourne Victory.
Bentleigh Greens who defeated Green Gully 3-2. Bentleigh will be making their 3rd appearance in the round of 32, having made the semi finals and quarter finals previously.
South Melbourne who defeated Dandenong City 5-4. This will be South Melbourne’s second FFA cup appearance, previously qualifying in 2015 where they lost to Palm Beach on penalties.
Heidelberg United who defeated Northcote City 2-0. Making their second FFA cup appearance, Heidelberg previously qualified in 2015 where they reached the quarter finals before losing to Melbourne City.

Capital Football

The ACT has 1 spot in the round of 32 up for grabs, and they still have 3 rounds to play.

The teams still in the hunt are:

Canberra Olympic
Woden Weston
Gungahlin United
Monaro Panthers
Tuggeranong United
Riverina Rhinos
Canberra FC
Tigers FC

Football Federation NT

Celtic FC are the first team through to Round 7 in the NT, with their opponent still undecided according to the FFA Cup website.

Football Federation SA

South Australia has 1 entry into the Round of 32, which honestly feels a little low. If the main competition were expanded to 64 teams, we would definitely see a few more SA slots.

With round 7 to be played on the 13/14 of June, the winners of these 2 games will go head to head to determine entry.

WT Birkalla v MetroStars.
MetroStars were they to qualify would make their 3rd appearance, previously reaching the round of 32 and round of 16. WT Birkalla would make their 1st cup appearance.

Adelaide Blue Eagles v Adelaide City
Blue Eagles would be making their cup debut, whereas Adelaide City previously played in 2014 where they famously defeated HAL team Western Sydney Wanderers 1-0 and reached the quarter finals where they lost to Bentleigh Greens 2-1 AET.

Football Federation Tasmania

Tasmania like the ACT, NT and SA has 1 entrant into the cup. That participant will be the winner in the round 7 match:

Glenorchy Knights v Olympia FC Warriors

Neither team has previously qualified for the cup.

Football Queensland

Queensland will have 4 entrants into the cup this year, the 2nd most amount of teams behind NSW and tied with Victoria.

There are still 2 round 6 matches to be played with one of them including the giant Slayers Redlands United.

The confirmed round 7 matches are:
FNQ FC Heat v Magpies FC Premier Mens,
Gold Coast City FC v Caloundra FC
Grange Thistle SC v Moreton Bay United.

Football West

With 2 slots allocated to WA, they have reached round 7 with their two games scheduled for Monday 5th June.

Bayswater City SC v Western Knights Soccer Club. Bayswater would make their 2nd appearance if qualified, previously losing to Victory in the round of 32 in 2014. Western Knights would make their 1st cup appearance.

Sorrento Football Club v Dianella White Eagles. Sorrento would make their 2nd cup appearance after qualifying in 2015 where they lost to Sydney FC in the round of 32.

Northern NSW Football

Many question whether NNSW deserves 2 spots for the FFA cup, when NSW already has 5 yet SA only has the 1. Perhaps a play off game would be fair between NNSW and SA?

With round 6 still to play, these are the teams still in the mix:

Lambton Jaffas FC – 1 previous cup appearance
Broadmeadow Magic FC – 2 previous cup appearances
Valentine FC
Maitland FC
Edgeworth FC – 2 previous cup appearances
Cardiff City FC
Byron Rams
Coffs City United FC
